"I was told I had bronchitis and was given antibiotics in January 2018. I remember telling the doctor, "Thank you, I thought you were going to tell me I had lung cancer.”
I was told I had bronchitis and was given antibiotics in January 2018. I remember telling the doctor, “Thank you, I thought you were going to tell me I had lung cancer.” She chuckled and said, “let me listen again.” She made a comment about my right lung and something about checking for COPD at a future appointment.
I asked for more antibiotics in March of 2018. The nurse said if my lungs are gurgling, she couldn’t get me more antibiotics. I needed to go the ER, and she would call 911 for me. The doctor at the ER saw a mass on my right lung and ordered a CT scan. A mass on my liver and some spots on my lymph node. I live in a small town, so I was rushed to Duluth, Minnesota in an ambulance.
A rare form of lung cancer, stage 4 and collapsed lung was about all I heard.
Less than 2 weeks later, all of my hair fell out.
It's been a long road.
Thank God for immunotherapy because the chemo almost killed me while not doing anything to the cancer.
Luckily I was given a humanized antibody and now have more than a 4 percent chance of surviving 5 years.
Insurance pays for mammograms and colonoscopies...why not lung cancer screening???
